It goes without saying that the pastor of a church has to volunteer and be ready to help in a multitude of situations.
But New Horizon Church Pastor John Raymond is one of those rare ministers who decided to spread his reach into the community that he serves. Besides his connection to other churches, John is as active as any of the top volunteers in the city with a host of non-profits, civic groups and business organizations.
He has connected with the business community as a member of the East St. Tammany Chamber and is active at most of their public events. But he is also a part of many public Christian outreach groups and events, including membership in the Slidell Minister's Association, and working as a deputized and trained member of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office Crisis Team that ensures a pastor responds to every suicide in the parish to offer comfort and assistance to family members.
John is the founder and head of the school at his church, Lakeside Christian Academy, while the church also owns and operates a Christian radio station in Slidell, the Bridge Radio 88.7 FM, that sponsors concerts, fundraisers, community events and supports many charitable causes.
John is involved in many other volunteer efforts throughout the area, including:
∙ Praying for our Peacemakers - video collaboration with local civil servants, politicians, and community leaders, speaker and event host
∙ Hospital visits and funerals helping people in their most emotional times
∙ Upward Basketball Coach
∙ Rotary: Heritage Festival, Charitable organizations
∙ Habitat for Humanity - President of the Faith Engagement Committee
∙ Habitat for Humanity Serve Day Captain for New Horizon Church
∙ Community Christian Concern Volunteer
∙ Annual Cook-off fundraiser and benefit for Community Christian Concern
∙ President of the St. Tammany Community Action Agency
∙ President of Leadership Northshore Class of 2018
∙ 2017 Graduate of the Slidell Citizen's Police Academy
∙ 2018 Vice-President of the Slidell Morning Rotary Club
∙ 2016 Graduate of the St. Tammany Citizen's Fireman's Academy
∙ Vice-Chairman of the St. Tammany Parish Republican Party (RPEC)
∙ Member of the Northshore Republican Men's Club
∙ Member of the St. Tammany Board of Elections Supervisors
